ABC’s of Homework                                                   Sept. 14,  2009

Mom helping Consistency is the key

TIME - Help your child decide what time she should start working on her homework. Choose a time that will work every evening. Keep the time consistent. Consider your child’s physical needs. Are there any after school activities that will conflict with homework? Does your child need a break after school? Is your child involved in other activities? Does your child need to eat first?

PLACE - Help your child decide where she is going to do her homework. Remember that your child spends all day working in a classroom surrounded by other children.

Homework

COMFORT - Help your child design a learning space that maximizes productivity. Good lighting, comfortable
positioning, and no visual distractions. Usually a child’s productivity is not affected by music or household noise.

AHHHHHHH - Productivity is severely affected by TV. Turn it off until the homework is done. Homework needs to be a priority that is respected by the whole family. Don’t banish your child to another room to do homework because you want to watch TV. Turn it off and help your child do her homework
